Heaton Eye Associates
Director of Revenue Cycle - Onsite Position
Job Summary:
Heaton Eye Associates is seeking a Director of Revenue Cycle to lead practice-wide revenue cycle strategy and performance. HEA already has an Associate Director of Revenue Cycle and a team that maintains the daily work, team relationships, follow-up, and task execution. The Director will build on that foundation by setting the larger direction, identifying gaps, coaching leaders and physicians, and helping HEA align clinical and billing workflows with best practices.
This is a good fit for someone who understands both the billing language and the clinical language. The right leader is forward thinking, accurate, concise, reliable, and able to communicate complex RCM topics in a practical way that physicians, clinical teams, ASC staff, finance, and billers can act on.
About the Practice:
The physicians of Heaton Eye Associates have been serving East Texas’ vision needs for over 40 years.
Heaton Eye Associates is a physician-led eye care organization serving patients across East Texas. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of our patients by providing reassurance, improving and maintaining vision, and preventing blindness through treatment and education.
We offer state-of-the-art technology with special services ranging from primary eye care to world-class laser surgery. Our physicians were the first to offer LASIK laser vision correction in East Texas and have performed tens of thousands of procedures since its inception. Heaton Eye offers a wide range of premium lenses including Symfony Extended Depth of Focus lenses, PanOptix® lenses, and Vivity® lenses to offer freedom from glasses and contacts after cataract surgery. Our surgeons were the first in East Texas to offer the RxSight Light Adjustable Lens, the only lens implant that allows patients to preview and adjust their vision after cataract surgery. We are the first and only practice in the area offering EVO ICL, another exciting option offering patients freedom from contacts and glasses. Additionally, we have the only fellowship-trained Pediatric Specialist as well as the only Oculoplastic Surgeon offering cosmetic, medical, and reconstructive surgery as well as state-of-the-art aesthetic services in the area. The extensive care and energy Heaton Eye Associates puts into maintaining our leadership position on information and technology in the rapidly evolving science of ophthalmology reflects our commitment to our patients.
This is an opportunity to strengthen an established practice by improving systems, supporting physicians and teams, and helping HEA capture revenue accurately, compliantly, and consistently.
About the Area:
Our East Texas locations in Tyler, Longview and Athens offer year-round activities the entire family can enjoy. In Longview, you can experience Texas' rich history and culture. Tyler is surrounded by 25 prime sporting lakes, offering wonderful opportunities for fishing and boating. In the spring, Tyler residents enjoy the colorful spring flowers. Athens, whose tagline is Hamburgers-Heritage-Texas, has the charm of a small, southern town while still retaining many qualities of a larger city and is home to the East Texas Arboretum and Botanical Society.
Seeking an Exceptional Director of Revenue Cycle | Heaton Eye Associates | Full-Time | Monday-Friday
Why This Role Matters:
Revenue cycle is not just a billing department function. It is impacted by scheduling, eligibility, authorizations, documentation, charge capture, coding, ASC workflows, payer behavior, denials, collections, and patient financial communication. HEA needs a leader who can see the full system, recognize what we may be missing, and help teams improve without harming culture.
What Will You Lead:
- Set the practice-wide RCM strategy and priorities in partnership with the CEO or Senior Finance Officer, finance, RCM, clinical operations, and ASC leadership.
- Support and guide the Associate Director and RCM team with clear priorities, escalation paths, standards, and accountability.
- Coach physicians, providers, clinical teams, ASC staff, surgery counselors, front desk, and billing staff on how workflows affect clean claims, denials, authorizations, and collections.
- Identify revenue leakage, missed charges, charge lag, underpayments, preventable denials, payer trends, documentation gaps, and workflow breakdowns.
- Build simple reporting that shows what is happening, why it matters, and what should be done next.
- Strengthen controls for high-value services, ASC procedures, drugs, devices, implants, modifiers, authorizations, appeals, refunds, and adjustments.
- Partner on EMR/practice management optimization, workflow redesign, training, and change management.
- Protect compliance, patient experience, and HEA culture while improving revenue performance.
- Guide and direct insurance payor contracts and credentialing support teams.
What Success Looks Like
- Physicians and teams understand key billing requirements and feel supported, not criticized.
- RCM metrics improve: cleaner claims, fewer preventable denials, faster charge capture, stronger AR follow-up, better payer visibility, and fewer missed opportunities.
- ASC and clinic billing workflows are better aligned and more reliable.
- The Associate Director and RCM team are clearer on priorities and have better support from leadership.
- Executive leadership receives concise, accurate reporting and practical recommendations.
- Improvements are made in a way that strengthens culture and trust.
- Expertise in guiding credentialing, negotiating contracts, and implementing EMR/PM updates.
The Person We Are Looking For
- Strategic RCM leader: not just a task manager.
- Teacher and translator: able to connect billing rules to clinical operations.
- Clear communicator: accurate, concise, respectful, and reliable.
- Data-minded problem solver: looks for root causes instead of blame.
- Collaborative coach: comfortable working with physicians, clinical teams, ASC leaders, finance, and billing staff.
- Culture fit: raises standards while protecting the patient-centered, team-oriented feel of HEA.
- Curious and forward thinking: asks better questions and helps us see what we do not see.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of healthcare revenue cycle experience, including leadership responsibility in a physician practice, ASC, specialty group, or comparable ambulatory setting.
- Strong understanding of professional billing, ASC billing, coding, charge capture, authorizations, denials, appeals, payment posting, AR, patient collections, payer behavior, and compliance-sensitive revenue capture.
- Experience coaching physicians, clinical teams, or operational leaders on documentation, charge capture, payer requirements, or workflow improvement.
- Strong analytical skills and comfort building or interpreting RCM reports.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ophthalmology, optometry, optical, or ophthalmic ASC experience preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
Certifications such as CPC, CPB, CRCR, CHFP, CPMA, CMPE, or similar are helpful but not required.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, finance, accounting, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
Benefits:
HEA offers competitive compensation and a benefits package for eligible full-time team members, including medical, dental, vision/optical benefits, PTO, paid holidays, life and disability coverage, 401(k), flexible spending accounts, employee assistance resources, and employee discount programs. Benefits are subject to plan terms and eligibility.
To Apply:
To apply, please submit a resume and brief cover letter describing a revenue cycle improvement you led, who you partnered with, and the result.
