Job Summary:

Serves as support personnel following regulations for the practice of Nursing Assistants including assisting with patient admissions, patient procedures, care and maintenance of procedural instrumentation, discharging patients, chart preparation, medical records, assisting providers and other personnel as needed, and other collateral duties.

Our physicians were the first to offer LASIK laser vision correction in East Texas and have performed tens of thousands of procedures since its inception. Heaton Eye offers a wide range of premium lenses including Symfony Extended Depth of Focus lenses, PanOptix® lenses, and Vivity® lenses to offer freedom from glasses and contacts after cataract surgery. Our surgeons were the first in East Texas to offer the RxSight Light Adjustable Lens, the only lens implant that allows patients to preview and adjust their vision after cataract surgery. We are the first and only practice in the area offering EVO ICL, another exciting option offering patients freedom from contacts and glasses. Education/Experience/Licenses/Certificates/Eligibility:

Completion of Nursing Assistant certification program

  • Critical Thinking:  Ability to assess, prioritize, plan and implement patient care within the scope of practice.
  • Knowledge:  Aseptic and sterile technique. Maintains knowledge of current technical practice.
  • Machines, Equipment, Work Aides:  Computer, printer, copier, telephone and fax.  All standard admitting supplies and equipment. Standard medical supplies used within scope of practice.

Essential Competencies/Performance Expectations:

Clinical Skills

  • Demonstrates competency and knowledge of medical records documentation. 
  • Uses knowledge of medical record policy and procedures. 
  • Assists with rooming, changing and dressing, transport and patient movement within the facility. 
  • Participates in medical records QAPI. 
  • Identifies vital patient care needs and prioritizes accordingly. 
  • Coordinates patient care with other team members. 
  • Keeps work areas clean, tidy and properly stocked, free of soiled equipment and supplies. 
  • Reports abnormal or unexpected outcomes or observations to RN and/or physician. 
  • Collects and records pertinent patient data (vital signs, NPO status, medical history, etc.) as instructed. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique. 
  • Assists provider with procedures as directed. 
  • Demonstrates awareness of protocol for malfunctioning equipment and repair. 
  • Wears appropriate attire in restricted areas.  
  • Adheres to recommended traffic patterns.  
  • Demonstrates skill in appropriate use of instruments and equipment. 
  • Transports patients to and from the facility. 
  • Assists with preoperative patient preparation and postoperative patient discharge. 
  • Assists with OR turnover. 
  • Cleans, restocks supplies as assigned

  • Listens respectfully, gives feedback directly, honestly and talks with others to clarify differences. 
  • Effectively communicates and interacts with patients (using translation services when needed), their family, and other external and internal clients (including fellow employees) from diverse backgrounds.
