Refractive Nurse
Job Summary:
Responsible for providing individualized, specialized nursing care to patients in the Refractive Surgery Center, in accordance with physician orders, recognized nursing standards, applicable state nursing practice laws, and the Center’s policies and procedures.

Certifications/Licensures:
Current TX LVN or RN Licensure
Preferred CPR and/or must obtain CPR
Experience:
1 year previous nursing experience
Preferred pre-op and post-op experience
Education:
Graduate of an accredited college or university school of nursing
Job Duties:
- Patient Care:
- Evaluates and completes assessment of patient needs to provide supportive care before, during and after surgery and maintains accurate and complete records
- Preps patients for surgery
- Accountable for administration of medication
- Call patients to confirm appointments and review surgery day procedures
- Assist in maintaining good patient flow on surgery days
- Coordinates post-op and pre-surgical phone calls from patients and family members
- Maintains equipment and supplies
- Maintain equipment and supplies:
- Anticipate and ensure adequate inventory of supplies and medications
- Order supplies and medications
- Stock Laser Surgery Room and prep for surgery
- Clerical:
- Prepare surgery charts, arm bands, and other paperwork in preparation for surgery
- Assist in returning phone calls and emails/web contacts inquiring about surgery
- Customer Service:
- Responsible for providing excellent customer service
- Attendance/Punctuality and Reliability

- All other duties as assigned-includes but not limited to:
- Back up surgery counselor as needed
- Learn computer database management
- Assist and monitor patient surgery and counseling schedule
- Attend optometry education meetings hosted by HEA
- Assist in various community events and health fairs
- Attend staff meetings, refractive meetings, and monthly OD/Refractive meetings
Qualifications and Skills:
- General knowledge of practice management software
- Preferred Electronic Medical Records experience
- Positive attitude
- Dependable
- Multi-task orientation
- Good communication skills
- Able to handle patient complaint in customer service fashion
- Preferred Bilingual
- Must obtain good clinical skills in delivering patient care
